Patients hit by shortage of drips

- By Tom Bryant By Jemma Crew

FORMER pin-up girl Linda Lusardi strikes a familiar pose in the sparkly bikini that made her famous three decades ago – at an incredible 60.

The star, a favourite on the modelling scene in the 1970s and 1980s, recently found the two-piece in her attic and was delighted it still fitted her.

Linda, a mother of two with a string of TV shows to her credit, said: “I think I look pretty good.

“I can’t believe I’m wearing the same sparkly bikini I wore back in the day. I found it the other weekend while I was doing a big clear-out.”

Linda, who turns 61 next month, is married to former Brookside star Sam Kane and has two children, singer Lucy Kane, 22, and son Jake, 19.

She has appeared on Emmerdale, The Bill, Hollyoaks and Brookside as well as Celebrity Come Dine With Me and Dancing On Ice.

She told Best magazine: “I used to look at people in their 60s and think, ‘They’re all old’, but when you get there yourself you feel the same inside. “I’m in a good place.

“I have a very happy life, happy marriage, great kids. That’s all I need.”

The star admitted “constantly” comparing herself to how she used to look in her PATIENTS who are fed through a drip at home are experiencing delays in deliveries prompting the NHS to declare the problem a national emergency.

Hundreds of people dependent on Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) have been affected after regulators ordered the formula to be changed to maintain safety standards.

Manufacturer Cheshire-based Calea, said it was changing the way it adds trace elements and vitamins to the bags after failing to meet requirements heyday but said she had been helped by her genes.

She said: “My mum Lila is 86 and still a size 8. And my dad, who I sadly lost a couple of years ago, was in incredible shape before he went. I watch my weight, but I’m very lucky with my metabolism.”

Asked about cosmetic ops, she said: “Never say never, but I’m not sure I’d bother. The older I get, the less likely I am to get anything done.”

Her top diet tips include cutting down portion sizes and not eating after 8pm – though she confessed to occasionally “munching in front of the telly”.

Linda features on the front cover of Best, which is out now. set by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in June.

The resulting delays have been formally declared an emergency “at the highest level”, national patient safety director Dr Aidan Fowler said in a letter to NHS trusts and doctors in England andWales.

TPN is a liquid that bypasses the gut and provides nutrients directly into a person’s bloodstream. It is used in patients with intestinal failure who cannot absorb nutrients properly.

Several people, including a child, have been admitted to hospital as a result of the delays, the Health Service Journal reported.

Dr Fowler said the problem, initially thought to impact patients for four weeks, is now likely to go on longer.

“We realise that the disruption presents a clinical risk and have been careful to try and balance the risk of contamination and sepsis against the risk of supply disruption, which we know has already impact,” he wrote.

“MHRA has been working closely with Calea to monitor the implementation of interim changes to the manufacturing process while a long-term solution is being developed.

“This is a difficult balance, but we are of the view that the manufacturing changes are necessary.”

Dr Fowler said affected people will be given temporary standard feed bags, which may mean they need additional supplements. had
