Trueman leads Cas stroll WORLD OF

-

HAT-TRICK hero Jake Trueman was the star as Castleford Tigers moved into the box seat for a play-off place.

The talented stand-off scored two tries and made another as Daryl Powell’s men roared into a 20-0 lead in their must-win clash. Trueman then completed his treble after the break to help Cas go above Hull and into the top five ahead of the final round of fixtures.

The Black andWhites now need a shock win at home to runaway leaders St Helens next week – coupled with defeats elsewhere – to keep their faint Old Trafford hopes alive.

Cas have had to cope for the entire season without injured England playmaker Luke Gale, placing extra pressure on the shoulders of Trueman, who is still just 20.

It was a Trueman pass that helped create the game’s opening try, allowing centre Cheyse Blair to twist over for his first score for Castleford in his 15th appearance. Moments later,Trueman stepped through a static defence to double the lead. And he topped that in the 18th minute as he spotted another gap, racing through it and around full-back Jamie Shaul for his second.

Just 78 seconds after the restart, Trueman capitalised on a Ratu Naulago mistake to seal his hat-trick. IRISHMAN David Carey ripped up the record books with a remarkable 57 at the Alps Tour’s Cervino Open in Italy.

The 23-year-old made 11 birdies in a blemish-free first round to lead the 54-hole event by four shots yesterday. Jim Furyk’s 58 is the record on the PGA Tour while Englishman Oliver Fisher’s 59 is the best on the European circuit.
