I’M SURPRISED FERGIE’S WIFE WASN’T ON UNITED STAFF

KEANE CUTS LOOSE:

- Darren Lewis

Keane lifted seven Premier League titles and the Champions League during his trophy-laden 12 seasons under Ferguson at the club.

But Keane, who fell out with the ex-manager before leaving United in 2005, said: “People said [Ferguson] always had the best interests of United at heart.

“Darren Ferguson [his son] won a medal. He was very lucky. Alex Ferguson’s brother, Martin, was the chief scout for Manchester United for a long time.

“I’m surprised his wife wasn’t involved in the staff somewhere.”

Darren Ferguson picked up a Premier League winner’s medal in 1993 after making just 15 appearances under his dad.

He went on to spend most of his career in the lower leagues of the Football League, and Keane suggested he would have been nowhere near the Premier League under any other manager.

Keane went on to accuse Ferguson of failing to stand by him in his hour of need and said the Scot’s famed man-management skills were overblown.

Speaking on the Off The Ball podcast, Keane added: “People talk about Ferguson’s manmanagement. Don’t be kidded on by all of it.

“I was at the club when Bryan Robson left, when Steve Bruce left – two brilliant servants for Manchester United – and I didn’t like the way they were treated.”

The outspoken Keane was sold after an infamous MUTV interview in which he tore into team-mates.

It was seen as the catalyst for his exit but the Irishman remains bitter at the decision to dump him. “I don’t care if it’s Alex Ferguson or the Pope, I’m going to fight my corner,” Keane said.

“Ferguson came out afterwards and said he always did what was best by Manchester United. Nonsense.”
