Racism fine row rocks the FA
THE FA stand accused of not taking racism seriously after fining Huddersfield £50,000 for last month’s kit stunt – compared to £10,000 for Millwall for racist chanting.
A section of about 200 Millwall fans chanted “I’d rather be a **** than a Scouse” during their FA Cup fourthround win against Everton in January. On August 1 they were fined £10,000 and told to “implement an action plan”.
The Football Association found that the south London club had “failed to use all due diligence” to ensure their
supporters refrained from using racist language.
Huddersfield, in contrast, were hit by the FA after wearing a kit in a friendly that breached advertising regulations.
Fernando Forestieri of Sheffield-Wednesday has lost his appeal against a six-game ban for using racist language towards Mansfield’s Krystian Pearce in 2018. SPURS have been mocked by Sporting Lisbon over their summer £58m bid for Bruno Fernandes.
Club president Frederico Varandas revealed Spurs offered £40m up front for the midfielder, right, with a further £18m to be paid should Mauricio Pochettino’s side win major silverware. But pointing to Tottenham’s trophy drought, Varandas claimed it was a bonus his club would never get. He said: “One of the incentives was for Tottenham to win the Premier League and Champions League – something that’s never going to happen.”
Meanwhile Atletico Madrid have joined the queue of clubs waiting to lure Christian Eriksen away from Tottenham in January.
The Dane, who will be a free agent next year, has refused to sign a new £200,000-a-week deal and says he wants a “new adventure”.
