Attacker breaks beauty queen’s nose

- By Paul Jeeves

THESE are the horrific injuries an aspiring model received after she was punched by a stranger in an unprovoked attack as she made her way home from a beauty contest.

Emma Clark, 27, suffered a broken nose when the man struck her repeatedly in the face after she stepped off a train with her mother and aunt.

The mental health nursing graduate was competing in the North East Calendar Girls Grand Final in Newcastle having made it through to the last round.

But she was set upon seconds after she stepped off a train in South Shields shortly before midnight last Sunday.

She said: “It’s left me shaken. I don’t want to go out but I want people to see what he’s done. I am just hoping the doctors can fix me.

Chatting

“I have suffered low selfesteem all my life and getting through to the final was a massive boost. This has knocked me down again.”

Emma was chatting to her mother and aunt when they were approached by a middle-aged man who told her: “You live in Madras Street,” and began pointing at her angrily.

Emma said: “I told him I’d never heard of the street. Then he grabbed me and we both fell over. He sat on me and punched my nose again and again.”

As her shocked mother rang 999, the attacker fled. A police spokesman said: “Officers attended and a 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault. He has been released under investigation and inquiries are ongoing.” An assault by a middleaged stranger left beauty contestant Emma Clark disfigured, above. Right, Emma before the attack
