Kang happy to be public enemy No 1

-

DANIELLE KANG says she will not be repeating Patrick Reed’s “shush” gesture at Gleneagles during the Solheim Cup.

But the 26-year-old looks set to become the latest pantomime villain of team golf as the US seek a third straight victory in the biennial contest with Europe this weekend.

Kang, below, won three of her four matches on her debut in Des Moines in 2017 and is relishing the opportunity. “You’re trying to take souls,” she said. “You’re going there to make people cry, just crush the other team. That’s the fun of it.We don’t ever get to do that. We’re always alone. We’re always by ourselves, playing for us and our caddie and our own little team. To have another person understand what you feel when you hit a bad shot and to do it together, I just think that’s pretty incredible.”

Asked if she will copy Reed’s gesture to the crowd during the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, Kang said: “I can’t shush the crowd. I like noise. I can’t be shushed. I’d rather hear loud booing because I’m loud, whether I’m in Nevada or Scotland.

“However, since we’re in Scotland I don’t know what I’m going to hear. I hear that I’m going to be booed. So bring it on.”

❑ RORY McILROY said there was more to golf than Majors after being voted PGA Tour Player of the Year ahead of Brooks Koepka.

The Northern Irishman said: “Brooks has had an incredible year but it speaks volumes about what PGA Tour players feel is important. The greatest compliment you can receive is that your peers feel you have done something pretty special.”
