Pukki ready to strike gold for the Canaries
Norwich man can’t wait for a crack against Aguero and the champions
TEEMU PUKKI is relishing a showdown of the Premier League hotshots against Manchester City this weekend.
The 29-year-old Norwich striker has been the surprise scoring sensation in the top flight this season, collecting five goals from four games. That haul puts him joint second with City’s Raheem Sterling in the scoring charts and one behind Sergio Aguero, a pair he is set to face at Carrow Road on Saturday.
Pukki said: “I did notice the three top scorers currently in the Premier League could all be on the pitch.
“Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling are both world-class forwards, we all know that.
“It would be nice to play against them, especially Aguero. He is someone I really rate so highly as a striker. He comes alive in the penalty area and is so hungry for goals. “But it isn’t just the hunger – he is then cool and calm to score the chances that come along. I really like him as a player, and it is nice just to see your name on a list with those guys.”
Pukki, a talisman for both the Canaries and Finland, has adapted seamlessly to the Premier League after scoring 29 goals in the Championship to help Norwich earn promotion last season.
He added two more for his country in the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Greece and Italy over the past week and cannot wait for a crack at the champions.
Pukki added: “It has been a great start for me this season, with seven goals for club and country. It might be the best period of my career – although obviously last season and promotion was special.
“Manchester City will be a huge challenge for us but one we are really looking forward to.
“They are one of – if not the – best teams in the world right now. But we are at home, and we like to bring teams back there and have a go at them.
“We know it is going to be very tough to get anything from the match, and they are very strong favourites to come to Carrow Road and win.
“But we can give teams a game, especially here. We have already shown it this season as well as last season in the Championship.We are a good team and can play at this level.”
