PICKS OF THE DAY

-

Consumerism: Spend Well, Save Better, C4, 8.30pm

There is surely no way viewers can go wrong if they watch this show. After all, we have an entrepreneur, a global wealth consultant, a financial adviser and a life coach dispensing advice on all things financial. The first in that list is Bianca Miller-Cole (left), a former runner-up in The Apprentice. Featuring tonight are a happily married couple who cannot agree on whether to sell the family home and a woman who is in debt to her big sister.

Documentary: 24 Hours In A&E, C4, 9pm

Mark (above) is brought to resus with a head injury after having an epileptic seizure and is sent for an urgent CT scan to assess the damage to his brain. Anastasia, 80, comes to urgent care with a pain in her leg and while she is sent for an X-ray to rule out a blood clot, she shares the story of her arrival to study in England from Nigeria, only for civil war to break out back in her homeland.

Drama: Vienna Blood, BBC2, 9pm

It’s a case of “goodnight Vienna” as this is the series-ending episode. Moving on from that rather lame pun we should outline the plot. As Max tells his family that Clara has broken off their engagement, the Liebermanns are shocked by an act of violence committed by Leah’s son Daniel. When bruises are found on the boy’s body, Max persuades Oskar that the military academy his nephew attends should be investigated. They learn that one of the pupils died in an accident 10 days previously and when Max finds a coded note in Daniel’s things he begins to suspect some sinister goings-on at the academy. Crime drama, starring Matthew Beard and Jurgen Maurer (both left).

Soap: Coronation Street, ITV, 7.30pm & 8.30pm

Robert (Tristan Gemmill, above left) agrees to sign on the dotted line and hand over control of the bistro to Michelle (Kym Marsh, above right). When Carla sees him later, though, it is clear he is wracked with doubt about the whole situation. And when, under instructions, he goes to Vicky’s house to ban her from the ceremony there is, quite literally, a crash, bang, wallop. But does she now know where she stands?

Film: Patriots Day, Film4, 9pm

Mark Wahlberg (right) takes on the role of Tommy Saunders – a fictional character in a film version of a book about the Boston Marathon bombings. Brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev detonate two devices, causing widespread panic in the city, and the film follows Saunders and the rest of the police force as they conduct a terrorist manhunt for the pair. A thoroughly well-told story with some superb performances, not least from Wahlberg.
