My £1million lottery windfall was a gift from my late mum

- By Matthew Young

A LOTTERY winner who pocketed a £1million Chrismas Eve windfall believes the prize was a gift from beyond the grave from her mother.

Lizbet Ramus was struggling to get through her first Christmas without Lavender, who died aged 83 from an aneurysm in April.

But when the warehouse manager discovered on Boxing Day that she had landed a EuroMillions prize she became convinced her mother had a part to play in her winning the “lifechanging” sum. Lizbet said: “We lost mum earlier this year and not a day goes by where I don’t miss her.

“She was such a thoughtful person and an amazing mum so I can’t help thinking, this is her spreading a little Christmas magic at a time when I really needed it.” Lizbet, 55, from Shoreham, West Sussex, bought six tickets for the Christmas week draws and kept them in a purse her mother used. “While it was our first

Christmas without mum, we did our best and had a lovely big family feast at my brother’s,” said Lizbet.

“The following morning I was sitting in the kitchen with my coffee, and I’ll admit I was feeling a bit down.

“Remembering my lottery tickets, I thought maybe I’d had some luck there – not for a second expecting £1million worth of luck.

“This win will change my life forever.”

Lizbet’s first spend was a £70 Next coat as part of a £500 clothes shopping spree.

She plans to see friends in Portugal and Hong Kong.

Lizbet, who has four brothers, plans to move from her small house to a cottage on the sea front.

She says that way she will also be closer to her family – including her 27-year-old son Reggie.

Away from Shoreham, she has a large extended family who have no idea about the windfall.

She added: “I’m going to use this win as a positive way to help me look forward and not dwell on the past, and just have a fun life.

“Beyond my cottage and travel, the only definite is helping out those closest to me.

“Mum would definitely want that and given she’s made me a millionaire, it seems exactly the right plan.”
