PICKS OF THE DAY

-

Cookery: Jamie And Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast, C4, 8pm

A new year means a raft of new series hitting our screens and this is arguably the one we are most excited about. Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty return and for the opener they bring out the big guns – we are talking Mary Berry! The legendary cook and former Great British Bake Off judge (left, with Oliver and Doherty) enjoys a nostalgic seafood feast inspired by her happy family holidays in the West Country. The wander down memory lane features a stuffed whole trout, potted shrimp and a retro crab cocktail, plus bread from Mary’s favourite bakery. Elsewhere, Jimmy rustles up a gorgeously gooey mozzarella and pesto bread.

Soap: Coronation Street, ITV, 7.30pm & 8.30pm

As Josh’s trial begins, painful memories resurface and Jade takes Hope to A&E to have her arm looked at but Fiz (Jennie McAlpine, left) realises that the little girl has been telling more lies. On Steve’s behalf, Emma quizzes Amy, wondering why she’s so unhappy at home and later Steve confronts Tracy with Amy’s allegations – will she reveal all? Ray calls at the garage and is impressed to discover that Abi is a mechanic, until he finds out she is also an ex-con.

Quiz: QI, BBC2, 10pm

Sandi Toksvig calls for a bit of “quiet”, this time inviting Andrew Maxwell, Sara Pascoe and Jimmy Carr to join regular panellist Alan Davies (all above) to face her fiendish posers. As usual, the questions are so difficult points are instead awarded for the answers the host finds most interesting as opposed to correct. This programme never seems to age or run out of steam and long may it continue.

Comedy: The Goes Wrong Show, BBC1, 8.30pm

Amateur dramatics group The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society stages a Second World War drama, rarely performed because of its historical inaccuracy and poor research. Director Chris plays Rufus Heal, a dashing pilot reduced to a desk job cracking German codes in a top secret Allied facility after losing his leg. Comedy, starring Nancy Zamit, Bryony Corrigan and Charlie Russell (all above).

Film: Percy Jackson And The Sea Of Monsters, Film4, 4.40pm

The modern-day teenage son of the Greek god Poseidon must lead his friends on a perilous journey into the Bermuda Triangle. They need to recover the legendary Golden Fleece to save the world, but getting to it means braving all manner of terrifying monsters. Fantasy adventure sequel based on the second novel in the series, starring Logan Lerman (right), Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T Jackson.
