- From Peter Allen in Paris

POLICE shot dead an alleged terrorist near Paris yesterday after he killed one person and left two fighting for their lives.

Sources claimed the knifeman “was carrying explosives” and a specialist bomb-clearance team inspected the body before the all-clear was given.

The horror spree took place in the Hautes-Bruyères park, five miles south of the capital in the suburb ofVillejuif.

Deadliest

The attacker was heard to shout “Allahu Akbar” – Arabic for “God is most great”.

A witness said the barefooted man grabbed a woman by the throat, prompting her 56-year-old husband to step in.

They added: “It was then the husband was stabbed to death. The man was slashing at anyone he could.

“The wife was very badly hurt and rushed to hospital with a third victim, who is in a life-threatening situation.” Police said: “Four people in all were attacked.

“Officers arrived within minutes and were able to neutralise the attacker with gunfire.”

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez and Paris police chief Didier Lallement later visited the park, which is popular with young families.

Franck Le Bohellec, the mayor of Villejuif, said: “In these difficult times, let’s remain united and careful.”

In October, four people were stabbed to death at the Paris police HQ by radical Islamist Mickael Harpon, an IT specialist working with officers.

In November 2015, coordinated bombings and shootings by Islamist terrorists at the Bataclan theatre and other locations around Paris claimed 130 lives in the deadliest attacks in France since the Second World War.
