KENNETH ZOHORE scored his first goal in open play for West Brom as Slaven Bilic’s men marched on to the fourth round.

The Dane, below, had scored only two penalties since his £8million signing from Cardiff in the summer.

But he took his chance with the first-half winner in a poor-quality clash at the Valley watched by just 6,426.

Boss Bilic said: “Hopefully it can kick-start him. He never stopped working and deserved a chance.

“He was good. It is always important for a forward to score goals. It’s a good win.We were the much better team but could have scored more.”

BARNSLEY were relieved they swerved an FA Cup replay as they held their nerve to inch past Crewe.

The Tykes conquered form League Two side Crewe thanks to goals from Jacob Brown, Conor Chaplin and Luke Thomas.

Coach Matt Rose said: “We got the job done.We let them back into the game and there was a spell when they equalised but, in the end, it was quite professional.

“I don’t think anyone wants a replay. The amount of games in the Championship is phenomenal so we swapped nine, giving full debuts to Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu, Abraham Odoh, 16-year-old Aaron Henry and Aston Villa loanee Andre Green. Only four of the Addicks’ starting XI were born whenWest Brom midfielder Gareth Barry, 38, made his pro debut. Zohore netted after 32 minutes following a superb run and one-two with Kyle Edwards. Bowyer, who expects to make two new signings before taking on West Brom again in the Championship on Saturday, was proud of his youngsters. He said: “They did not let me down. “We had a 16-year-old kid against a guy I was playing with in Gareth Barry. It will only do those lads good for the future.” were pleased about that.”

Barnsley had a storming start as Brown thumped home from 20 yards after just three minutes.

After the break it took Crewe just three minutes to equalise as Paul Green nodded past Brad Collins from six yards.

Chaplin put Barnsley back in front with 15 minutes left, heading home from close range, before Thomas added the third.

Crewe boss David Artell said: “On another day it could have been different.”
