Craig loses his bottle in 007 beer ad
He plays buffoon to plug alcohol-free
DANIEL Craig acts more like Mr Bean than Mr Bond in his latest screen appearance.
The actor, 51, pokes fun at his suave 007 alter-ego in a new advert for alcohol-free beer.
In it, he is a hapless tourist who blunders around a Spanish holiday resort trying to find his lost passport.
The Heineken commercial, which was filmed in the towns of Tamarit and Cardona, near Barcelona, is playfully titled ‘Daniel Craig vs James Bond’.
It starts off with our hero sunbathing. He then jumps into a taxi but panics and gets out when the beautiful woman cabbie drives too fast for him.
He realises he has left his passport on the back seat and runs after the cab, getting a stitch before crashing into a waiter. Unimpressed locals recognise him and a band in a candlelit bar plays the James Bond theme. At one point, he bumps into a gang of criminals, who put their hands in the air because they believe he is the fictional spy.
As he finally hunts down his missing passport, he slips into his trademark tuxedo and snubs his usual Martini for a bottle of non-alcoholic beer.
Taking a sip, the dashing actor then looks pleased as he shoots a smouldering look at the camera with the caption “Once James Bond, always James Bond” appearing on the screen.
Heineken’s Gianluca Di Tondo said: “We wanted to bring a twist to the iconic character and show how Bond lives beyond the film.”
As Craig is about to be seen reprising his 007 role for the fifth and final time in No Time To Die, speculation is rife that Idris Elba, 47, could be the next Bond.
And Bond franchise chief Michael G Wilson this week hinted the next Bond may not be white or British. He told Variety magazine: “You think of him as being from Britain or the Commonwealth, but Britain is a very diverse place.”
● No Time To Die will be released on April 3.
