Hastings in no hurry to quit Wigan

- By Gareth Walker

JACKSON HASTINGS says there is no guarantee he will use the NRL release clause in his two-year Wigan contract.

The Steve Prescott Man of Steel joined theWarriors amid significant interest following his starring role in Salford’s run to the Grand Final.

Part of the deal means he can head back to Australia – where he has played for Sydney Roosters and Manly – should an NRL club come in for him.

But Hastings, 24, said: “I’m in no rush to go back. This country has given me everything I need to be a success. I’ve prolonged my career and become a way better player here.

“If an offer comes up that suits me not only financially but to help my family, I’d be silly not to look at it but the most important thing is I want to be the best player I can be.

“Coming toWigan will give me a chance to really express myself. I’m going to be part of one of the biggest rugby league clubs in the world.

“I’ve got no intentions of hitting and running.”

Hastings, who also dismissed reports he considered backtracking on hisWigan deal over Christmas, is focused on adding team cups to his Man of Steel.

He said: “It’s an award I’m very proud of, but I play to win that big trophy.

“I’ve been so close a few times – close in the NRL then also fell short for Salford. It leaves a sour taste in your mouth but a fire in your belly.”

❑ HULL KR chairman Neil Hudgell says there will be nothing “definitive for a long time” on prop Mose Masoe’s spinal injury.

The Samoa prop needed an operation after being taken off on a stretcher in Sunday’s pre-season game at Wakefield.

Rovers have set up a

Just Giving page to support Masoe and his family, while other relatives have flown over from Australia.

Hudgell said: “Mose has had surgery to relieve pressure on his spine and the initial prognosis is positive. The surgeon was happy with the outcome of the surgery but with that type of injury, it is a long, slow road to recovery.”
