Help! There’s a boa constrictor in my sink
A WOMAN was stunned after finding an eight-foot boa constrictor in her bathroom.
Police swooped on her flat when the shocked resident discovered the reptile curled up between her sink and bath.
A spokeswoman said officers were flabbergasted after they were called to the first-floor flat to deal with the shock find.
When they arrived they were confronted by the cold-blooded killer which had wrapped itself around the fittings.
Police said neither the woman nor her neighbour knew where the animal had come from.
They attempted to find a snake expert but when that failed, they called up colleague – PC Chris Eastwood – to handle the creature in Birkenhead, on the Wirral. The spokeswoman said: “Constable Eastwood has knowledge of snakes and handling them and confirmed it was a boa constrictor.
“He was able to calmly approach the reptile, which had wrapped itself around the bathroom sinks and taps.
“After giving it a drink of water he was able to coax it to unravel itself so that he could put it into a large, safe container.” PC Eastwood then made arrangements to have the snake temporarily housed at a pet rescue facility nearby. The Merseyside Police spokeswoman joked: “The snake has been temporarily rehomed and is doing well – the rest is hiss-tory.” The boa constrictor is found in tropical North, Central, and South America, as well as some islands in the Caribbean. It ambushes its prey – including rodents, birds, lizards and amphibians – by biting it. The snake then crushes it before swallowing it whole.
Its bite can be painful but rarely dangerous for people.
