Brave CF boy Ayden loses his fight for life

CYSTIC fibrosis sufferer Ayden Cochrane lost his brave battle for life yesterday, just two days after the Daily Express helped him secure a US wonder drug.

Last night, the 13-year-old’s mother Tracey, 33, tweeted an image of what appeared to be her holding her “warrior” son’s hand.

She said: “If loved could have saved you, you would have lived forever Ayden.

“I’m absolutely devastated but our precious boy was too tired for this world and has gained his wings.

“We know how many people loved Ayden. He was an absolute warrior but he got tired and now he’s at peace and pain free.

“We are without our son for just now but we will see you again.”

Trikafta is unlicensed in Europe, but after appeals including a bedside plea by Ayden, drug maker Vertex contacted the Daily Express on Saturday, saying Ayden would receive it.

It was the miracle Tracey, Paul, 33, and their other children Cody, 15, Dylan, 10, Lucie, four, and Rueben, two, hoped for, but it was too late.

Just seven months ago, lively Ayden had guests in hysterics speech wedding.

But a series of winter infections left him fighting for life in intensive care at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.

Renfrewshi­re, was born with a blocked bowel – a common indication of CF.

At just 18 months, Ayden had a third of his bowel removed.He had CF-related diabetes and rare lung condition hepatopulm­onary syndrome (HPS), a complicati­on of cirrhosis of the liver.Ayden needed Trikafta in order to have a bowel and liver transplant and last week he implored Vertex: “Please give me Trikafta and let me have the chance to live.

“Right now, it feels like I am suffocatin­g in my own body and I’m trying really hard.

“I would give anything to be able to kick a football around again and see my wee brother and sister start school.”
