You’re wrong Roy , it’s not easy being young and English

ROOKIE BOSS LAMPARD OUT TO PROVE HE CAN CUT IT

FRANK LAMPARD says Roy Keane has got it wrong in believing young English managers are given more leeway.

After watching former side Manchester United lose to Liverpool on Sunday, Sky pundit Keane deflected criticism from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by saying: “Frank Lampard has lost eight games but, for some reason, Frank is doing all right because he is English.

“Frank’s track record, his CV, he went to Derby, he didn’t get promoted. But Frank has got all the answers for Chelsea.”

Blues manager Lampard said: “That’s the moment my ears pricked up. I don’t think being English gives you any sort of a bye from criticism. In fact, I heard quite a lot when I first got this job of writing me off precisely because I’m young and English and only had a year at Derby.

“Certain people were saying, ‘You shouldn’t give him the job – give it to people who’ve got experience of doing well in Italy or somewhere else’.

“Fair play to Roy – that conversation with Roy was so quick that a lot was coming out. I love watching him talk about football because of how passionate he is and to the point. A lot of people want to question inexperience, and it’s my job to do as well as I can here so I put those questions to bed.” Lampard is ready to do battle with Manchester United to sign striker Edinson Cavani. The Paris SaintGermain star has handed in a transfer request and Atletico Madrid have made an approach. Lampard, who is set to offload Olivier Giroud before the window closes, said: “He’s a great player. I played against him and I always loved his mentality and attitude.”
