PICKS OF THE DAY

-

Transport: Great British Railway Journeys, BBC2, 6.30pm

Michael Portillo’s journey through the East of England takes him to the Snape Maltings music and arts venue, the Norfolk seaside resort of Great Yarmouth and the city of Norwich. The start point of this little trip is the fabulous-sounding Saxmundham, a small town in Suffolk just to the north east of Ipswich, which is served by the East Suffolk line. You have to wonder just how many trains dear old Mr Portillo has got off and on in the name of good TV.

Travel: The All-Inclusive: How Do They Do It – And Should You?, Channel 5, 9pm

The groups continue to sample all that their allinclusive holiday has to offer, as the Greens and the Wests enjoy an excursion – and as always, experienced vacationers the Greens are keen to share their tips on making the most of a day away from the hotel. Back at the resort, the women from Crewe uncover a few extra amenities.

Animals: Baby Chimp Rescue, BBC2, 8pm

Honestly, have you ever seen anything like these little chimps? After about 10 minutes of the first episode a fortnight ago we wanted to adopt one. New arrivals keep coming through the doors of the chimpanzee orphanage in Liberia, bringing Jimmy and Jenny Desmond and their team to breaking point as they find themselves providing around-the-clock care for 38 rescued babies. After losing one of the chimps to illness, they are more determined than ever to build them a sanctuary in the forest where they can live like wild chimps. To prepare for the move, the orphans are learning to make their own nests and get their first taste of life in the forest.

Soap: Emmerdale, ITV, 7pm & 8pm

Hawkford Outdoor Pursuits’ opening day finally arrives and Marlon Dingle drives in and parks up in the food van. Unaware of Rhona’s plans to leave with Leo and Graham for France tomorrow, she arrives unannounced to leave Leo with Marlon so they can spend some time together. Later, they head to Tall Trees and talk things through. Zoe Henry and Mark Charnock (both above) star as Rhona and Marlon.

Film: The Great Wall, Film4, 9pm

Fantasy adventure starring Matt Damon (right) and Willem Dafoe. In the 11th century, a group of Europeans set out for China to discover how to make gunpowder. However, on arrival their claims to be on a trading mission are disbelieved and they are arrested and imprisoned by the Nameless Order within the Great Wall – just as it is about to be beset by giant, lizard-like monsters. This film made good money at the box office but was still considered a bomb.
