I’ve been ‘bullied’ over pool tragedy, says star

- By Robin Cottle

MICHAEL Barrymore yesterday claimed he was being “bashed and bullied by the media”, just hours before last night’s TV documentary about a man found dead in his pool.

The 67-year-old spoke out in an online video ahead of the Channel 4 programme featuring Stuart Lubbock’s father.

Police investigating the case have said Stuart, 31, was raped and murdered on March 31, 2001, after his body was found at the presenter’s Essex home.

The TV star has denied any wrongdoing.

Terry Lubbock last night told the nation he feels the “door is starting to open” on information about his son’s death.

But in a video on social media, Barrymore complained Channel 4 had refused to show him Barrymore: The Body In The Pool.

He said: “I’ve always done anything that was asked of me and I’ve cooperated with everyone. Essex Police’s own QC has said ‘we know that Mr Barrymore has had nothing to do with this and that there is no evidence linking him with the injuries to Mr Lubbock or the pool’.

“I have had nothing to do with this whatsoever and yet I keep getting bashed and bullied by the media.”

But Terry, 74, hit back, asking the star in a post on Facebook: “How did my son get those injuries at your home Michael Barrymore?”

Meanwhile, he told the Channel 4 documentary his “life had been on hold” since the tragedy.

But he praised show producers along with the media for keeping the case in the public eye for the past 19 years.
