Mr Liu has said China is confident of beating the virus and accused Britain of over-reacting by urging all UK nationals to leave China.

TWO enterprising students have made £10,000 selling face masks on eBay in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

Gabriel Becker, 17, and Luke Gamble, 18, saw a gap in the market for the protective gear and decided to cash in on the current demand.

The pair, from Bournemouth, bought the masks at a knockdown price from a doctor’s surgery that was shutting and topped up with supplies bought online from

Spain. Paying about 1.7p per mask the students are now selling packs of 10 for up to £8 each online – 470 times more than the original cost.

Luke said: “On the first morning we had four sales.

“By lunchtime that was up to 500 sales and 1,000 by the afternoon.”

The idea of selling the masks came when Gabriel saw how expensive they were to buy when he was planning a trip to London.

He said: “They were extortionate. I looked deeper and deeper and saw there weren’t many people selling them. I was down to my last £20 and put it into this business and prayed it worked.”

The pair package the masks in a sanitised room in Gabriel’s family home.

His mum, Helen, 51, said she was very proud of Gabriel’s “get up and go” attitude.
