House-proud Britons are glad to be grey
HOMEOWNERS have crowned the grey as their go-to colour for home interiors.
The poll of 2,000 people found that 18 per cent thought it was the best colour for their walls, followed by white, beige, cream and blue.
But the adult movie Fifty Shades Of Grey might have taken some colour out of romance because the top choice in the bedroom for sensual couples was now black.
TV property expert Kirsty Allsopp is a fan of grey but urged caution.
The Location, Location, Location presenter said: “It’s now a very fashionable colour and I’ve seen it increasingly pop up over the country. But if you want to paint your walls grey, handle it with huge care.
“Always go for the palest shade as you don’t want a shade that will darken your walls – and remember that colours deepen when on four walls.”
The study, sponsored by retailer Topps Tiles, also claims people with red bathrooms spent the longest time grooming, at 50 minutes every day.
WHAT a grey day it is madam, but that’s no cause for the blues or even seeing red. Grey has become the nation’s favourite paint colour, not to mirror the admittedly unappealing weather outside, but because it’s elegant.
It brings out our inner interior decorator. It makes every Englishman and woman’s castle his or her sumptuously appointed home. As for grey in the nation’s bedchambers, think 50 shades of the stuff and have done with it. We’re all proud to be grey today.And don’t forget that a grey head indicates wisdom. No grey areas there!
