Beautiful Day for Buble as Stars In Their Eyes reboots

- By

CROONER Michael Buble is being lined up to star in the reboot of hit show Stars In Their Eyes.

The Beautiful Day singer has been asked to join the celebrity panel of judges for the revival of the 1990s talent show.

A TV insider said: “As soon as it was decided the show was coming back with a celebrity judging panel Michael was mentioned. “Producers know he’s massively popular, so they think he’d be perfect. “Whenever he’s on chat shows he’s brilliant fun. He’s got a fantastic sense of humour. “They also know he’d be well suited to a live show.” The original ITV show was a huge hit for host Matthew Kelly, now 69, who took over when original presenter Leslie Crowther was involved in a car crash.

It ran until 2006 – and is still remembered by many for the famous catchphrase:

Steph Spyro

“Tonight Matthew, I’m going to be...”

Members of the public would then disappear into a cloud of smoke, before returning as a look-alike tribute act to their favourite singer.

At its peak the show attracted 13 million viewers and ITV hope it can revive the Saturday night slot usually occupied by X Factor.

Producer Simon Cowell asked to rest the show for at least a year so he can rethink the format following a slump in viewers.

The last series saw fewer than three million people tune in for a celebrity special – a massive fall from grace for a show which pulled in an average of 14 million during its prime in 2010.

The reboot is not without risks though. Harry Hill, 55, presented an ill-fated revival of the show in 2015 – but ITV executives hope that introducing Buble, 44, and a string of other A-list stars as judges will work when it airs in the autumn.

The source added: “The execs know they need big names to make this revival a hit.”

Buble has sold more than 30 million records globally.
