It could be who? Hunt for £58m jackpot winner

- By Ellie Forbes

A LOTTERY jackpot prize of almost £58million has yet to be claimed, officials said yesterday.

The mystery ticket holder successfully matched five numbers and the two Lucky Stars on the day the UK went into lockdown: on Tuesday, March 17.

The winning ticket was bought in South Ayrshire but the owner may not even realise he or she is now a multi-millionaire.

EuroMillions bosses urged people to check their tickets online – rather than venture out to shops – and come forward by September 13. If no one claims the cash by then, it will go towards National Lottery-funded projects across the UK.

The winning numbers were 05, 07, 08, 16 and 20, with the Lucky Stars 02 and 12.

A spokesman for the National Lottery, which helps run EuroMillions, said: “We are desperate to find this mystery ticket-holder and unite him or her with this massive prize, which could make a huge difference to somebody’s life.

“We are urging everyone to check their old tickets.

“In the current situation, rather than taking a trip to the shop to check your tickets, we are encouraging everyone to check their numbers online or via the National Lottery app.”

It is not the first time that a winning ticket worth mega-millions has been bought in Scotland.

In 2011, the UK’s second-biggest jackpot ever – £161million – went to ColinWeir and his wife Chris from Largs in North Ayrshire.

Colin died last December, aged 71, but not before he bought his beloved local football team, Partick Thistle. The couple also donated to charity.

The biggest jackpot, £170million, was won last October by a ticket holder who stayed anonymous.
