Susanna’s back with Piers after 14 days in isolation

- By Steph Spyro

SUSANNA Reid returned to the Good Morning Britain set yesterday after two weeks in self-isolation.

The presenter, 49, was reunited with Piers Morgan after being forced to stay at home when one of her sons developed mild symptoms of the coronavirus.

Susanna said she learned she would have to self-isolate mere hours after Prime Minister Boris Johnson had announced the measure.

She told co-host Piers: “It was really bizarre. It was two weeks ago that the Prime Minister changed the advice the week before the lockdown.

“He said anybody who has a household with somebody in it who has a persistent cough or a high temperature, I’m afraid you’re out for 14 days.”

Piers then revealed that Susanna rang him “three hours later” to reveal she would have to go into isolation.

She added: “One of my sons came home from school and he was coughing and I thought, ‘Ugh.’” During the show, Piers also defended himself and his GMB colleagues for leaving their homes to continue to report on the coronavirus crisis, insisting they had been classed as “essential workers”.

Piers also celebrated his 55th birthday yesterday with a modest-looking cake in what was a low-key family affair.

His wife Celia Walden, 44, admitted she tried her best to bake a treat for Piers despite having limited ingredients because of the nationwide lockdown. Celia took to Instagram to share a snap of her husband enjoying a glass of red wine and the birthday cake.

She wrote: “The best baking I could manage under lockdown – or any circumstances. Happy Birthday, Mr Morgan.”

Piers had earlier told viewers how he has been forced to do his own make-up to avoid contact with others, but admitted he had been struggling.

He said: “I’ve basically painted my greying temples orange, which looks like one of those ghastly hair dyes that people do.”
