YOU’VE GOT TO FINISH WITH THE MISSUS

Solskjaer tells players to practise in garden with their partners

- By Gideon Brooks

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER has told his locked-down Manchester United players to fine-tune their finishing in their gardens… by asking their wives and girlfriends to help provide the assists.

United’s boss has been sharpening his own finishing as well as home-schooling his kids and working through box

sets of Peaky Blinders. But he maintained that his players’ gardens were big enough to practise their finishing in – if they can get their partners to provide the assists.

“The players have got individual programmes and they’ve got their own diets, of course, but this period could be used to work on something special, something specific for them and their roles and tasks,” Solskjaer added. “I’ve been in the garden with the kids, working on finishing, and the strikers should be working on finishing or their movement.

“Most of the players have got good facilities and decent gardens, so hopefully their wives and girlfriends will be able to put some passes and crosses in!”

Solskjaer has been keeping in touch with his squad through WhatsApp.

“That’s the good thing with technology and we’re lucky in that sense,” he said. “We’re in touch regularly.” He has alternated between teacher and telly addict during this period of isolation.

“We did homeschooling last week when it started and that’s a bit different,” he said. “Homework is one thing but doing the actual teaching is another.

“There’s some Peaky Blinders and the whole series to go through, too, with the different episodes and all the old ones like The Sopranos, just classics.”
