Wines, whisky… and ice cream! All you need for lockdown

-

ONCE again, I’m handing over the reins of the column to one of Britain’s brilliant specialist wine merchants to support independent retailers during lockdown. This week please welcome Luvians Bottle Shop. It was founded in 1981 by brothers Luigi,Vicenzo and Antonino (Lu-Vi-Ans) Fusaro – with sister Angela in the wings – in the heart of the Kingdom of Fife. Opening in the market town of Cupar, it has since grown to include a second shop in Scotland’s oldest university town, St Andrews.

The entrepreneurial Fusaro family arrived from the hilltop village of Cervaro in southern Italy in the 1950s.They settled on the west coast of Scotland before moving to the east coast in 1961.When the children moved on from the family café and fish and chip shop, the Luvians Bottle Shop was born.

Vince told me: “Our customers have been pleasantly surprised by the breadth of service we have been able to offer, from same-day delivery in our area, to sending bottles to the other end of the country the next day.

“For us, we have been delighted by the loyalty and enthusiasm shown for our new way of doing business. We’ve always aimed to be at the heart of our communities and it’s gratifying to see that coming to the fore in strange times.”

Not only does Luvians sell a range of delicious wines – featuring excellent Italian and French specialities as well as whiskies – but they also make their own ice cream. They’re doing nationwide courier deliveries from £8. Check out their website – luvians.com – and enjoy their picks below.
