FIVE ITALIAN & FRENCH FAVOURITES

-

Palladino Biferno Rosso Riserva 2015 (£7.99, 13%)

From Italy’s Adriatic coast and beautifully bottle aged and relaxed. A delicious red blend made from aglianico and montepulciano grapes.

Soave Classico 2017 from the Pieropan family (£14.99, 12%) Luvians were winners of last years Summer of Soave – a nationwide celebration among wine merchants of the best of these dry mineral whites from northern Italy’s Veneto region. This is a fabulous example.

Feudi di san Gregorio Lacryma Christi 2018 (£14.99, 13%)

Literally translated as “tears of the Christ”. Local legend claims the vines grew on the slopes of Vesuvius where Jesus’s tears fell as he ascended to heaven. This red is one of Campania’s most traditional wines, made using piedirosso and aglianico grapes grown in the local volcanic soils.

Consolation Juliette 2016 (£17.50, 14%) Each cuvée of Consolation is available only in very limited quantities, often just two barrels. Hand-picked roussanne sauvage grapes from 60 to 70-year-old vines are barrel fermented in new oak. A great example of what old vines can do – like a rich Meursault burgundy at a more affordable price.

Tramontane Grenache Noir 2018 (£8.99, 15%)

From south-west France this is a great everyday wine from fruit sourced from vineyards in Collioure which benefit from the contrasting effects of the Mistral, the cooling wind from the north, and the Tramontane, their hot African gusts. Lightly filtered, fresh and juicy.

● All wines are available from Luvians.
