Blessed blast over ‘gloomy’ Attenborough

- By

BOOMING Brian Blessed says “gloomy” Sir David Attenborough and the rest of the human race should cheer up about the planet – because our future lies in space.

And the Flash Gordon star, 83, is adamant he will blast off to help change the future after training in Russia and working with Nasa.

Brian, famous for his loud, powerful delivery, says climate change and the Covid-19 pandemic will be defeated.

He hailed natural history broadcaster Sir David, 93, but declared:

“We are astronauts.

We are cosmonauts. We belong in space.

“The future is out there and we need to allow the Earth to rest.

“But we’re going to win. We’re going to save the animals. One can’t be a prophet of doom.

“Attenborough is a sensational guy. He is the most wonderful guy on the planet. But he can be a bit gloomy.

“So come on though we’re going to make it.”

Brian told an interview with BBC radio: “We’re young but we’re

James Desborough

still in the cradle, we need to get out there. We don’t just belong here.

“I was with an audience the other day that said ‘Mr Blessed, you’ll never get me into space.’ I said ‘Love, you’ve got no choice’.

“You’re travelling at 16,000 miles an hour on planet Earth.

“So every time you wake up in the morning you wake up in a different part of the universe and the solar system and the Earth are moving out at these great speeds.”

Brian said his life was divided between acting and exploring.

He said: “I’ve just completed training in Moscow at Space City in 900 hours.

“I’ve been up Everest three times and been to the North Pole and they want to put me in space. Working with Nasa on Reunion Island in the Pacific.

“I did 800 hours there and I’m going to come and work on the Martian programme.”
