Police fury at London car charge

- By Richard Palmer Royal Correspondent

POLICE are fuming after being told they will have to pay the congestion charge to drive to work.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has brought it back after lockdown suspension – and is to raise it from £11.50 to £15 and extend the hours.

Central London NHS and care home staff are exempt but all other key workers will have to pay – or be forced to take public transport.

More than 3,000 have signed a petition calling for police, teachers and others to be exempted.

The Police Federation said it was “wrong and unfair” and “a kick in the teeth” for officers.

TfL said those who are exempt from the charge reflected “the fact that they could come into close contact with a large number of people who have coronavirus, and could infect people they come into contact with”.

PRINCE William has revealed that even a future king can struggle with dinner time in a house with three children.

The Duke of Cambridge, 37, has revealed that the tranquility of Amner Hall in Norfolk often depends on what food is served up.

Speaking to chef Charlie Farrally by video, William reflected on feeding time for six-year-old George, Charlotte, five, and Louis, two.

He said: “It depends what’s on the table. You know yourself that if you put something on they love, dinner time goes very well.

“But if you put something on the table they don’t want to do, that’s another ball game.”

The second in line to the throne spoke to Charlie during a video call to the PEEK project – which has cooked 123,000 nutritious meals for families in east Glasgow since lockdown began.

The charity – which gave William a virtual tour of its food truck – has received money from the National Emergencies Trust (NET), the organisation he became patron of in April.

PEEK chief executive Michaela Collins, 29, is a former user of its services. She said: “There’s such a stigma attached to poverty.

“People in desperate need may not ask for help because of the pride factor. But through PEEK we have that trusted relationship: it’s not a handout, it’s a hand up. The public response has been really heartening.”

William spoke to the charity on Tuesday and was offered cooking lessons, which may help wife Kate, 38, who seems to bear the brunt of duties in the kitchen in the Cambridge household.

The Duke also video-called Finding Your Feet, a Paisley-based charity that supports amputees and those missing a limb across Scotland. He
