Charles backs tribute to victims
PRINCE Charles has helped launch an online book of remem- brance for the Britons who have died from Covid-19.
Charles recorded a video message in support of the Remember Me project, which St Paul’s Cathedral in London is launching today, to create a record of all those in the UK, who have died from coronavirus.
From today, family, friends and carers of those who have died can submit the name, a photograph and short message in honour of their loved one at the website rememberme2020.com
Remember Me will be turned into a permanent physical memorial of the victims of the pandemic in the cathedral.
Charles, who went down with mild symptoms of the virus in March, said: “For too many among us, this has brought tragedy and heartbreak.
“For many, the loss of their loved ones has been made all the more agonisingly painful by the necessary restrictions on funerals, travel and gatherings.
“For all of us, there has been anxiety in the present.”
He added: “This virtual book of remembrance is here to help us remember; not just to recall our loss and sorrow, but also to be thankful for everything good that those we have loved brought into our lives.”
The physical memorial has been designed by architect Oliver Caroe, whose mother Mary, a GP, died aged 81 from Covid-19 last month.
He said: “I hope the Remember Me memorial will help us all look ahead, past the immediate, painful horizon, in hope.”
Leaders of all the main faiths in Britain have given their support to the project.
