£3.3m Bond car replica comes with fake guns

- By Mark Reynolds

It's a case of Drive Another Day for James Bond's most famous car after Aston Martin announced it is making 25 replicas.

But the price tag of £3.3 million for each DB5 will leave fans shaken and stirred, especially as they can't be driven on roads because they don't meet modern safety standards.

They will, however, have several of the gadgets 007 enjoyed in his outings in the car, which first appeared in cinemas in Goldfinger in 1964.

These include fake machine guns, in the headlights, inset, that make a realistic sound.

Also fitted are a smoke machine that spreads “fog” and oil-slick dispensers.

The car – initially driven by Sean Connery before being used by Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig in later Bond movies – will also boast bullet-proof shields and revolving number plates and will match the original “Silver Birch” trim.

All the gadgets can be controlled from inside the cabin or by remote control.

However, the ejector seat and nails spreader have been disabled.

And potential buyers will be disappointed that all 25 models have already been sold and will be delivered later this year.

They are being built in Aston Martin’s factory in Newport Pagnell, Bucks.

Special-effects experts from EON Productions, the firm behind the Bond franchise, are helping out.

Andy Palmer, outgoing CEO of Aston Martin, said: “To own a Silver Birch DB5, complete with gadgets and built in the same factory as the original Bond cars – that is surely the ultimate collectors’ fantasy.”

Four DB5s were made for Goldfinger, with each being fitted with different gadgets such tyre slashers and battering rams. Last year one sold for a record £5.3million at auction.
