PICKS OF THE DAY
Culture: Kermode And Mayo’s Home Entertainment Service, BBC4, 8.30pm
Prolific duo Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo (left) chat about the new Netflix series Space Force, starring Steve Carell and Lisa Kudrow, as well as sci-fi thriller The Vast Of Night, a new Amazon Studios release. Viewers will also hear what the nation has been watching at home and Simon and Mark will round up the best (and worst) of the rest of streaming culture across movies and premium television. A really enjoyable series thus far.
Soap: Coronation Street, ITV, 7.30pm
Despite the fact that Asha (Tanisha Gorey, above left) just wants to move past all the recent unpleasantness she has been involved with, Dev (Jimmi Harkishin, above right) shows her an article that is all about reputation management, a company that helps you to stay safe on the internet. Elsewhere, Shona visits Gail and Sarah but she is clearly confused and can’t recognise Harry at all.
Nature: Gardeners’ World, BBC2, 9pm
Presenter Monty Don (left) – who it is hard to see without thinking about his poor departed dog Nigel – reveals how to pot tomatoes on to the next stage of their growth, something that might be perfect for lockdown gardeners. Don also pots up tender vegetables and plants containers for summer colour. Adam Frost enjoys the seasonal plants in his garden and shares plans to transform a part of his plot into a seating area using a few logs and plants. Arit Anderson fills a range of imaginative containers with a variety of plants, while Frances Tophill explores spring flowering trees and their benefits for bees. Plus, how one man has designed his home around his love of houseplants.
Film: Bad Neighbours, ITV2, 9pm
Millions of people across the world will have learnt more than they ever imagined about their neighbours over the last few months. It is unlikely any will compare to what we see in this comedy. A couple living in suburbia and adjusting to new parenthood are determined to prove they can still be cool when a household of students moves in next door. Starring Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne (both above).
Quiz: Have I Got News For You, BBC1, 9pm
Martin Clunes, a veteran of this show, guest hosts the satirical current affairs quiz, with regular team captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton (right) joined by panellists including comedian Fin Taylor. This is the last in what has been a much-criticised series, owing to difficulties stemming from the coronavirus pandemic. While Merton and Hislop have lost none of their acerbic wit, the fact it now needs to be transferred via internet streams somewhat slows things down.
