Mini skirt beats little black dress as fashion favourite THE TIMELESS TOP 10
THE mini skirt has been named the most iconic fashion statement of all time – ahead of the little black dress and hot pants.
The research has also revealed that knee-high boots, denim jackets and skinny jeans are among our top 10 most memorable style trends.
Platform shoes and flared trousers, both made popular in the 1970s, also feature in our list of favourites, along with leather biker jackets and shoulder pads from the 1950s and 1980s.
Today’s stars, from Holly Willoughby to Kylie Minogue, have ensured that classic fashion styles – made famous by Sixties icons like Mary Quant and Audrey Hepburn – are never forgotten.
The study of 2,000 Britons, commissioned by Samsung, revealed which of these trends are a wardrobe staple – with one in four saying 1980s skinny jeans are still a fashion must-have. Meanwhile, a quarter of women have a little black dress and one in 10 adults has a classic leather jacket to hand. And twofifths feel fashion is mostly made up of old styles making a comeback.

study shows there are many memorable trends from over the years and people are hanging on to items they perceive to be classics.”
The study also found plain T-shirts and a pair of trainers are among the wardrobe staples for the nation. And one in 10 says a designer winter coat is the most important item to own.
However, just 11 per cent of those polled described their fashion sense as “on trend”, with six in 10 describing their style as merely “comfortable”.
The study also found the oldest items in our wardrobe date back 12 years, on average.
