We’ll Street again! Corrie cast back on set without old guard
CORONATION Street will begin filming new episodes next week – but without big stars like Bill Roache because of their age.
The returning actors face training in social distancing and other changes before heading in on Tuesday.
But anyone over 70 or with an underlying health condition will not yet be allowed be on set.
They include Bill, 88, who plays Ken Barlow, Sue Nicholls, 76, (Audrey Roberts), Barbara Knox, 86, (Rita Sullivan), and Malcolm Hebden, 80, (Norris Cole). The cast and crew will have their temperatures checked every day and actors will do their own make-up at the Manchester studio.
And the storylines are being rewritten to fit the new ways of working.
Andy Whyment, who plays Kirk Sutherland, said: “It’s going to be different but we’re all ready to get back now. We’re going to have to have an induction.
“There’ll be things like a one-way system and a director will stay in one studio. It’s going to take some time getting used to.”
Emmerdale is already filming and EastEnders is expected later this month.
