WHY is it that authors insist on presenting famous people’s long-term extramarital affairs as romantic clandestine trysts fuelled by lusciously lascivious long-term love? Adulterous liaisons are constructed on lies and

deceit. Spouses are hurt, betrayed and taken for fools.

A new book, Lady Lucille, claims that the French actress Catherine Deneuve and the singer Johnny Hallyday, above, kept their illicit union rumbling along for 50 years.

Hallyday was five times married, Deneuve once. If they truly adored each other, why didn’t they make it kosher?
