Watt luck! Electrician wins £1m with first go
ELECTRICIAN Simon Waddup celebrates a £1million lottery win – following a hunch to buy his first ticket. Simon revealed he landed the windfall after a “voice in his head” told him to play EuroMillions. The dad of one, who has been off sick for a year, now plans to realise his schoolboy dream to build a property portfolio. He said: “I still can’t believe this was the first time I played a main draw game. Lady Luck must have been smiling down on me and said, ‘You need this now’.” He was shopping in Aldi when he “kept hearing a voice in his head” guiding him to play. He returned to his Coventry home and bought two EuroMillions lucky dips online for that night’s draw on May 19. Simon, 31, said: “I completely forgot about it until the next morning.
“I looked at my phone and saw I had a message from the National Lottery. It wasn’t until I called hotline that I let myself believe that it was real. I was then in a bit of a daze, just shaking.”
Simon has since been researching properties online – and planning a family holiday with his 10-year-old daughter.
He said: “Due to coronavirus, I can’t celebrate with my family and I can’t wait to see people and talk about the win. I will get a passport for my daughter. She has already told me that she wants to go to Spain.”
The sparky, who also plans to buy a coffee machine, has been in and out of hospital with a blood disorder and a faulty heart valve.
He added: “I can’t believe I have got this amazing windfall that will enable me to go after my dream.”
