A victory for Victor

- By Chris Goulding

VICTOR LUDORUM booked his ticket for the French Derby after blowing away his rivals in the French 2,000 Guineas at Deauville.

His victory, in the hands of Mickael Barzalona, was a ninth success in the classic for trainer Andre Fabre.

Held up in the rear of the field, the colt took off when Barzalona released the brakes inside the final furlong.

The Summit, who had beaten Victor Ludorum at Longchamp last month, had to settle for second with stablemate Alson back in third place.

Victor Ludorum is now the 4-1 favourite, from 7-1, for the French Derby at Chantilly on July 5.

Fabre and Barzalona were expected to capture the French 1,000 Guineas with Tropbeau.

But Dream And Do, who finished second behind Tropbeau at Longchamp, came out top with her rival fourth.
