Health: A&E After Dark, Channel 5, 10pm
Each new hospital documentary series that commences on free-to-air television is further championing of the heroic NHS staff and that no bad thing. This particular one goes behind the scenes at Hull Royal Infirmary to show the night-time challenges facing workers, like nurse Grace Penn-Timity (left), in the A&E department. In the first edition, a 34-year-old man is brought in after having punched his arm through a pub window. Handcuffed and accompanied by four police officers, his behaviour has medical staff fearing for the wellbeing of other patients. Matron Kat Henry deals with a flirtatious patient who has cut his head after a night out but is determined to leave without treatment.
Nature: Springwatch, BBC2, 8pm
Chris Packham, Gillian Burke, Iolo Williams and Gordon Buchanan share more seasonal stories from Spring 2020 – a season that will be remembered like no other. Packham (left) reveals how snails can use their shells to help them remember and naturalist Brett Westwood celebrates the diversity of insects in his back garden including an egg shooting fly. Meanwhile, Burke reveals the extraordinary camouflage tactics of some rock pool inhabitants.
History: SAS Rouge Warriors, BBC4, 9pm
BBC4 are kindly reshowing this superb three-part series from Ben Macintyre at the moment. He uses the SAS archives to examine the history of the British Army special forces unit combining documents, unseen footage and interviews with its founding members to tell the remarkable story behind an extraordinary fighting force. In the first edition, he looks at its formation in the north African desert.
Soap: Coronation Street, ITV, 7.30pm
Having gone through Geoff’s bank accounts, Imran (Charlie De Melo, above left) confides in Alya (Sair Khan, above right) that he has been frequenting a hotel bar in town. Yasmeen later reluctantly admits that he’s been hiring escorts. Imran later approaches Kelly wanting to know how he can get in touch with her dad but a watching Gary has clocked their exchange from a distance.
Film: The Bank Job, Film4, 9pm
Written by the same duo who brought us Porridge – Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais – this factbased crime thriller has Jason Statham (right) in the thick of the action. A London car dealer is persuaded by an old flame to rob a bank. The heist goes off without a hitch, leaving the crooks in possession of cash and jewels worth millions – as well as a safety deposit box containing top-secret information that some are determined to keep buried. Co-starring Saffron Burrows.
