Ready for return of visitors...and sun

- By Steph Spyro

AT least the hedges at Loseley Park have been able to get a hair cut as the stunning site prepares to reopen to the public today.

Gardeners used last week’s sunshine to put the finishing touches to the grounds surrounding the impressive 16th century Surrey house.

Visitors to the park, where Loseley Dairy Ice Cream was invented, will have to follow a one-way system to encourage social distancing as they walk around the gardens.

Also taking advantage of the recent sunny snap was photographer Simon Hulme, 51, who asked his daughter Fleur, 12, to pose in a particularly pretty poppy field.

Simon, from Leeds, drove past the blooms in Woolley, West Yorks, and immediately went home to pick up Fleur and return. He said: “The sun was beaming down, the lighting was great, and the field was just beautiful. I’ve never seen a field so full before – it was breathtaking.”

Thankfully, the warm weather looks set to make a comeback at the end of this week following a disappointing weekend of strong winds and rain.

Met Office meteorologist Luke Miall said there were still a few days of unsettled conditions to come before Britain basks in sunshine again.

He said: “It looks like we may see another frontal system coming in from the Atlantic, giving a bit more of a changeable spell through the middle of this week. If that came in we’d probably be looking at a bit of a repeat performance of the last couple of days, where we’d see the strong northerly winds and outbreaks of rain.”

Temperatures are expected to remain below 68F (20C) for most of the country until Friday when the mercury will rise slightly to around 71F.

The Met Office said skies in most regions will be bright and clear tomorrow but then rain will move in for the middle part of the week.

A spokesman added: “Rain in the far North-west will spread to most areas on Wednesday, becoming heavy in places.

“It will be somewhat brighter and drier in the North on Thursday.”
