Border Force anger as Patel backs new rules

- By Michael Knowles

PRITI Patel last night insisted controversial quarantine measures now in force will “help control the virus, protect the NHS and save lives”.

But angry Border Force officials told the Daily Express “staff are illprepared and angry”.

Most international arrivals will be ordered to selfisolate for 14 days despite warnings the rules will hammer the aviation industry, close businesses and prevent people from going on a summer holiday.

All travellers must fill out a “contact locator form”, including details on where they will isolate and how they can be contacted.

They will also face random spot checks.

Anyone caught flouting the rules will face a £1,000 fine.

Border Force officials fear large queues in terminals today and confusion after guidance was sent out late on Friday afternoon.

A senior official also warned of different rules at some of Britain’s biggest airports and ports.

Tory MPs, airlines and holiday firms have all blasted the 14-day quarantine plan, warning it will effectively close off Britain to the rest of the world.

Border Force officials said a 23-page document was shared with bosses shortly before 4pm on Friday, with orders that the rules need to be in place by today.
