Great white shark kills surfer, 60

A SURFER aged 60 has died after being attacked by a great white shark in Australia.

The man was bitten on the back of his thigh and brought to shore yesterday by other surfers who had fought off the 10ft shark.

The victim was given first aid but died on the beach in South Kingscliff, New South Wales. It is the third fatal attack in Australia this year.

Nearby beaches were cleared of swimmers and surfers.

Stuart Gonsal, from Kingscliff, said he was planning to go for a swim but arrived to find people being hauled in, adding: “We found out there was a fatal shark attack. We were going to get in, we’re not going to now for sure.”
