Marathon effort keeps the memory of soldiers alive
IWAS heartened by the activities of Steven Oldrid to commemorate the anniversary of D-Day through the marathon ceremonies, given the normal ceremonies had to be scrapped due to the pandemic (“One man’s mission to honour D-Day heroes”, June 5).
My father landed on Juno Beach alongside the Canadian troops so it brought back a lot of memories of when I took him to the 50-year anniversary in 1995 and stood on the beach where the photograph in Friday’s Daily Express was taken.
It’s a crying shame that thousands of families will miss out this year due to the pandemic. However the main concept is the pledge “We will remember them”.
