HAS THE CORONAVIRUS EPIDEMIC KILLED OFF CASH?

-

Yes

I HONESTLY can’t recall the last time I paid for anything with actual money (“Cash avoided as 90% pay at tills by card”, June 5).

Even when I go to the supermarket I use a circular token on my key ring to release a trolley. I haven’t had a pound coin in my purse since March. Contactless card payments, even for small amounts when buying a newspaper or a carton of milk, mean it’s so easy to keep track of what you spend thanks to online banking.

Cash was dying out anyway. Covid-19 is the final nail in its coffin.

No

CASH will always be king. You know where you are with it and if you pay for everything with notes and coins you’ll never be able to spend more than you’ve got.

At the start of every month I put cash into separate envelopes for rent, bills, food, savings and going out (in the days before lockdown).

When the going out money is gone, it’s gone.

As a result, I’ve never been in debt and I don’t have a credit card.

I’ve been saving up for a deposit for a house and thanks to this trick I’ve almost got enough.
