FRANK’S FLEDGLINGS ARE GIVEN WERNER WARNING
FRANK LAMPARD has no problem if signing Timo Werner has put Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi’s noses out of joint.
Youth was given its chance at the start of the season after FIFA banned Chelsea from signing players last summer. But two days ago the club signalled their renewed intent by splashing out £47.8million to sign RB Leipzig striker Werner on a five-year deal.
Werner can only join the club next season, giving Abraham and Chelsea’s other attacking players nine Premier League games, starting with tomorrow’s trip to
Aston Villa, to show they are still worthy of a place in the team.
“I’ve spoken to Tammy before on the idea of competition and I don’t feel the need to address every player after one comes in at a club like Chelsea,” said Lampard above. “Tammy’s had a really good season and he has to improve on that.”
