Police warn over ‘Super Saturday’
SENIOR police chiefs last night fired a warning to drunken louts ahead of Super Saturday, when many pubs will reopen.
Millions are expected to celebrate freedom for the first time in more than three months by hitting bars to party.
In response many forces have cancelled leave and are bracing themselves for disorder.
Martin Hewitt, chair of the National Police Chiefs’ Council, said: “Anti-social behaviour, criminality and assaults against police officers will not be tolerated.
“Where offences are committed, police will quickly investigate and prosecute when appropriate to do so.”
He added: “The vast majority of drinkers are responsible, but we know some people will drink to excess and become vulnerable to harm or indeed cause harm to others.”
