Vitamin D is no cure...but still required
VITAMIN D does not prevent or treat Covid-19 but will still aid bone and muscle health, Public Health England has said.
Two reviews looking at vitamin D and respiratory infections found there was insufficient evidence to indicate any benefit.
But PHE has said taking a daily 10mcg supplement could help protect musculoskeletal health, particularly for people spending less time in the sun.
Dr Alison Tedstone, chief nutritionist at PHE, said: “With many people spending more time indoors, particularly the more vulnerable groups and those shielding, there is a risk that some people may not be getting all the vitamin D they need from sunlight.
“It’s important they consider taking a daily vitamin D supplement to help protect bone and muscle health.”
