Breakfast of champions
WRITER W Somerset Maugham famously said: “To eat well in England you should have breakfast three times a day.” And the protein-packed British breakfast is one of our finest culinary traditions, with eggs, bangers, kippers, beans, black pudding and toast.
Delicious – but a poll of 18 to 35-yearolds shows that traditional breakfasts are being shunned in favour of newcomers such as avocado on toast, halloumi cheese and the “cronut” – a doughnut and croissant hybrid – which are then photographed for social media prior to eating.
Our thoughts? Drop the pretensions and the cameraphone, and go to work on a proper “full English”.
