1951: England thrashed Australia 17-0 in Sydney but it is a match that the Football Associatio­n do not recognise as a full internatio­nal.

1990: Willie Carson became the third jockey, after Alec Russell and Gordon Richards, to ride six winners at one meeting when he achieved the feat at Newcastle.

1991: Duke McKenzie became the first British-based boxer to win world titles at two different weights when he beat Gaby Canizales for the WBO bantamweig­ht crown at the Elephant and Castle Leisure Centre in London. He had previously held the IBF flyweight belt.

1998: David Beckham was sent off as England were knocked out of the World Cup 4-3 on penalties by Argentina after a 2-2 draw in the last-16 stage.

1999: Manchester United decided to pull out of the FA Cup to take part in the inaugural FIFA World Team Championsh­ip.

2002: Ronaldo scored two second-half goals as Brazil won the World Cup for the fifth time, beating Germany 2-0 in the final in Yokohama.

2013: Nico Rosberg was reprimande­d by stewards for failing to slow for yellow flags during the British Grand Prix at Silverston­e but still kept his race victory.
