1951: England thrashed Australia 17-0 in Sydney but it is a match that the Football Association do not recognise as a full international.
1990: Willie Carson became the third jockey, after Alec Russell and Gordon Richards, to ride six winners at one meeting when he achieved the feat at Newcastle.
1991: Duke McKenzie became the first British-based boxer to win world titles at two different weights when he beat Gaby Canizales for the WBO bantamweight crown at the Elephant and Castle Leisure Centre in London. He had previously held the IBF flyweight belt.
1998: David Beckham was sent off as England were knocked out of the World Cup 4-3 on penalties by Argentina after a 2-2 draw in the last-16 stage.
1999: Manchester United decided to pull out of the FA Cup to take part in the inaugural FIFA World Team Championship.
2002: Ronaldo scored two second-half goals as Brazil won the World Cup for the fifth time, beating Germany 2-0 in the final in Yokohama.
2013: Nico Rosberg was reprimanded by stewards for failing to slow for yellow flags during the British Grand Prix at Silverstone but still kept his race victory.
