Ringo turns 80 with a little help from friends

SIR Ringo Starr is reuniting with bandmate Sir Paul McCartney and other rock star pals for an online concert to celebrate his 80th birthday.

The Beatles legends will come together again for the video special to be screened on YouTube on Tuesday.

Also appearing in the all-star line-up are Sheryl Crow, Elvis Costello, Willie Nelson, Peter Frampton and Kenny Loggins.

Sir Ringo, who has been quarantine­d at his Beverly Hills mansion for 11 weeks, will play from home.

The legendary drummer usually stages a street party in Los Angeles to mark his birthday but is thrilled about hosting a video celebratio­n for 2020.

The virtual reunion with fellow Beatle Sir Paul will excite fans worldwide. Sir Ringo said of his old mate: “He is the finest, most melodic bass player in the world. Any chance playing with Paul.”

The concert will feature video footage of the performers in action.

Some have contribute­d fresh clips, while others have offered up scenes from shows that took place prior to lockdown.

“This year is little different.

“But we’re putting this show together, a TV hour of music and chat.

“I called up a few friends and we put this big birthday show together so we could still going to be

acelebrate my birthday with you all, with some great music for some great charities. I hope you will all join me.” The star also shared his views on the pandemic fallout, adding: “It is a weird time to be around. I haven’t left the house for 11 weeks now.
