PICKS OF THE DAY
Film: US Marshals, ITV4, 9pm
Tommy Lee Jones returns to the role that won him an Oscar in The Fugitive for this sequel. Federal marshal Samuel Gerard sets out in pursuit of an escaped prisoner who is determined to prove his murder conviction was false. As the chase progresses, the marshal is forced to work with a diplomatic security agent, making him realise the fugitive is no ordinary convict and that his claims of innocence may be true. Wesley Snipes and Robert Downey Jr co-star with Jones (left).
Soap: Emmerdale, ITV, 7pm
Cain is secretly disappointed to hear from Chas (Lucy Pargeter, above, with Jeff Hordley as Cain) that Moira is developing interests in other people. Meanwhile, Jamie is stunned to find Millie in the kitchen alone – but Andrea is still nowhere to be seen. Dawn and Will meet with the bishop at the Woolpack but as time passes, Harriet doesn’t show up and the pair are forced to make excuses on her behalf.
Cookery: Jamie’s Quick And Easy Food, C4, 8pm
We are not expecting Jules Oliver to be on camera duty in this series, nor are we thinking we will see Buddy or Petal hop on to their dad’s lap at any point as they did during his lockdown show, but it is good to see Jamie Oliver back on our screens. In Quick And Easy Food, he cooks up four mouth-watering recipes, kicking things off with a deliciously foolproof aromatic lamb curry that he knocks together in no time, followed by his flavour-packed harissa squash salad. Next up, Jamie cooks a sophisticated and speedy rosé pesto prawn pasta – an impressive dish that’s deceptively easy to make. He also makes the fastest little flapjacks around.
Gardening: Gardeners’ World, BBC2, 8pm
Monty Don (above) offers tips on maintaining the vegetable plot for continuous crops. From Devon, Carol Klein gives a comprehensive guide to getting plants for free, turning her attention to honeysuckle and clematis. In Brighton, cameras return to Kate Bradbury’s garden to see how the once barren plot is being used by wildlife. Plus, from the archives, Rachel de Thame’s visit to Kiftsgate Court Gardens.
Travel: A Greek Odyssey with Bettany Hughes, Channel 5, 9pm
Historian and classicist Bettany Hughes (right) is Greek island-hopping tonight in the hope of exploring their history from the time of the Ancients to the present day. In Santorini, she visits a Minoan city preserved in time by a violent volcanic eruption. Bettany’s next port of call is Naxos, where in an abandoned marble quarry, she finds a genuinely monumental statue of the god that has lain there for thousands of years.
